Surf Guiding

Guide to surf

Know how to surf, just don't know where to surf in Cape Town? This is for the more experienced surfer looking to get into skill appropriate surf at one of the many world-class breaks along the Cape Peninsula. Our experienced surf guides are dialed in on which spots work best in various wind and swell conditions. We will pick you up from your lodging and take you to the best waves suited to your ability-from intermediate to advanced. We will only confirm surf guiding 24 hours in advance when the online forecasts are relatively accurate.

Please note: The surf guide is there to take you to the best spot on the day and be a companion in the water. They are there to advise the best places to paddle out and to inform you of any possible rips/currents or dangers you need to be aware of. This option does NOT include instruction. Participants must be competent intermediate to advanced surfers with the ability to paddle out/duck dive through the waves to the back line and select/catch waves on their own. If you do not fit into this category, but have skills more than beginner level that you wish to improve on, we suggest booking a 'Solo-Stoked' private lesson instead.

Pricing valid until Wednesday the 31st of October 2019:

1 Person: R 2300

2 Persons (Maximum): R 1250pp

Our headquarters are located in Camps Bay so that we have easy access to both coastlines of the Cape Peninsula. There are many options for good surf along both coasts and therefore, dependent on your skill level and kind of waves you usually surf, we will guide you to the most suitable break on the day of your booking. We check the forecast on several reliable sources and combine this information with our local knowledge to decide where we will go each day. We consider factors such as wind, tides and swell direction before making our decision to provide the safest and most enjoyable experience based on the information you provide regarding your level of surfing.

  • 4:3mm wetsuit
  • suitable surfboard (we have a quiver of various board sizes/types)
  • leash

  • sunscreen

We have a range of boards in our quiver from shortboards and fishes to minimals and longboards. You'll just need to let us know at the time of booking which board you surf most often or feel the most comfortable on in the surf we'll be taking you to. We use quality 4:3mm wetsuits to keep you warm throughout the year. Wetsuits are well maintained-washed and rinsed after each use.

We offer pick ups from locations in Cape Town city and surrounds (see pick up area list below). If you are located outside of the pick up area, we will ask you to meet us at a pre-arranged location in the city. If you are staying at a private residence/Airbnb etc, we may ask you to meet us at one of our regular pick up points closest to your accommodation. We will transport you to the beach in our comfortable van or our original surf school VW golf.

We pick up from Camps Bay, City, Sea Point, Green Point, Woodstock and Observatory. If you are not staying in any of these areas, let us know your lodging location at time of enquiry as it may be that it is en route to one of the beaches we can possibly take you surfing.

We will pick you up from your accommodation and transport you to the beach with the most ideal wind and swell conditions on the day of your surf session. One of our experienced and knowledgeable surf guides will keep you entertained with information on the various surf spots in Cape Town and may even share some of their many interesting surfing stories with you. This is a half day activity where the pick up time is determined by the conditions, however if you have a preference of when you surf, we can try our best to accommodate this.

Please note: As our aim is to get you into the best skill appropriate surf during the time of your stay in Cape Town, we highly suggest having some level of flexibiity of when you can surf with us i.e. giving us a minimum of two date options that you have available to surf. In this way we have a better chance of getting you into good conditions. We will only confirm surf guiding if the 24 hour forecast looks suitable, understanding ofcourse (as a surfer yourself) that online forecasts are not always 100% correct and that the nature of scoring epic surf is dependent on many factors. If you have time/itinerary constraints, kindly let us know at the time of enquiry/booking to ensure we can accommodate this.

No you do not have to. We will provide your wetsuit and board.

We use beginner specific foam boards but have an array of hard boards you may use, if the coach sees progress.

Please specify if you have prior surfing experience and would like to use a hardboard.

We provide very nice 4:3mm wetsuits, which should keep you well protected from the colder waters in Cape Town.

This will also depend on your threshold for cold temperatures and how active you are in the water. The more you move the less cold you will be.
