I was passing through Cape Town for work and only had a short window to surf. I signed up for surf guiding. Michelle picked me up at my accommodation, took me directly to some really fun waves, and provided a great board and wetsuit. What level of surfer is surf guiding suitable for?
Surf guiding is designed for competent surfers who can paddle out, duck dive, select and catch waves independently and confidently surf open wave faces. If you still need coaching or assistance catching waves, we recommend a private surf lesson.
How do you choose where we surf in Cape Town?
We assess the wind, swell, tides and your surfing ability before selecting the most suitable break. As a mobile surf operator, we are not tied to one beach.
Do I need to bring my own surfboard and wetsuit?
No. We provide you with a 4:3mm wetsuit, hooded thermal vest and a suitable board from our quiver. If you are only planning to surf once or twice while in Cape Town, using our equipment can also save you the hassle and additional airline fees of travelling with a surfboard. Let us know your preferred board type and dimensions when booking, and we’ll select the best available option for you.
Can my partner or family join if they don't surf?
Yes. Non-surfing partners or family are welcome to join and enjoy the scenery while you surf. As our surf guiding is a private experience and pricing is based on the number of guests travelling, accompanying non-surfers are included in the guest count. Alternatively, our Surf & Explore day tours are a great option for combining surfing with activities everyone can enjoy.
Can I combine surf guiding with a Cape Town day tour?
Yes. Our private Surf & Explore day tours can combine surf guiding with the Cape Peninsula, Constantia wine region or Cape Town food and cultural experiences. We can also customise the itinerary around your interests, available time and the surf conditions during your time in Cape Town.
What is the difference between a half-day and full-day surf guiding?
Half-day surf guiding is a 4–5 hour experience with one surf session, ideal if you have limited time in Cape Town. Full-day surf guiding is 8–9 hours and includes two surf sessions, giving us more flexibility to explore the coastline and adapt the day around the best available conditions. Both options include a private surf guide, transport and quality surf gear.
