SURF GUIDING
SURF CAPE TOWN WITH A LOCAL GUIDE
This is a great option if you’re an experienced surfer looking for a knowledgeable surf guide. Our surf guides are dialed into which surf spots work best in the varied surf conditions in Cape Town. This half-day of surf guiding offers pure convenience and exclusivity. Your private surf guide will read the forecasts and plan where to take you based on your preferences. Suitable gear from our extensive surfboard quiver will be packed for you. You’ll be driven to the surf in our comfortable surf van so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the epic scenery along the way.
Please note: Your surf guide will advise you on the best places to paddle out and inform you of any possible dangers or rip currents you need to be aware of. Your surf guide is there to be a companion in the water. This option does not include surf lesson instruction. You need to be an experienced, competent surfer with the ability to: paddle out, duck dive through the waves to the backline, select waves on your own, take-off confidently and surf open wave faces.
If you’re unsure whether this is a suitable option for you, please read our surfer skill levels blog to determine which surf experience we suggest that you book.
lOCATION

I had a blast with my surf guide, David! He was very informative, professional, and helpful in the water. After picking me up at the hotel, he took me to a couple of different spots, explaining different breaks on the way (even ones not breaking just so I would know about them.) In the end, we had a great time a Glen’s and it was the right choice. Water was cold but the views and waves made it worth it and helped out with the crowd. Certainly recommend going with a guide even if you’re experienced.

DO I NEED MY OWN GEAR?
We will provide you with a wetsuit and suitable board. Please specify your preferred board dimensions at time of booking.
WHAT KIND OF BOARDS DO YOU HAVE?
We have a full quiver of boards to choose from. Send us the dimensions of the board you typically ride, and we will match it up with one we have on our racks.
CAN I BRING ALONG MY TRAVEL BUDDY/PARTNER IF THEY DON’T SURF?
Sure thing! There is a minimal price difference between the 1 and 2 person surf guiding rate for this reason. We may surf at breaks where there are no facilities but if they come prepared, they can have an enjoyable experience as all our beaches are beautiful (in addition to the drive to get there).
WHAT ABOUT THE SHARKS?
Shark-surfer encounters are very rare and we have successful shark spotting programmes at beaches known for sightings. As with anything, we surf at our own risk…but that risk is so low compared to driving a car, putting a knife in a toaster to remove your trapped toast or walking under a coconut palm! Read the stats in our blog about this.
WHAT HAPPENS IF THE CONDITIONS ARE POOR ON THE DAY OF MY BOOKING?
For all our surf guiding bookings, we will only confirm 24-48 hours in advance when we are sure the conditions are suitable based on your described ability. We do advise some flexibility in your schedule if you really want to get a surf in on your trip to Cape Town so that we have more than one option to work with.
CAN I COMBINE SURF GUIDING WITH OTHER ACTIVITIES TO MAKE IT A FULL DAY EXPERIENCE?
Absolutely yes! Surf guiding is a private surf experience which we can combine with a trip down to the Cape Peninsula or even a wine tasting experience. Check out our day trips page for more info or contact us for any custom itineraries. Our surf guides are also qualified tour guides so you’re in good company.
